Guides / Dryer Vent Cleaning: The Fire-Safety Chore Everyone Skips
Thousands of US house fires every year start in dryer lint — and the fix is an annual cleaning that takes under an hour. If your clothes take two cycles to dry, you're not maintaining a dryer; you're incubating a fire.
Longer dry times, a hot dryer top, a burning smell, lint around the outside flap, or a laundry room that turns humid mid-cycle.
Disconnect the dryer, vacuum the transition hose, and run a rotary brush kit through the wall duct to the exterior hood. Long or roof-terminated runs are worth a pro visit.
Replace vinyl/foil accordion hose with semi-rigid or rigid metal — accordion ridges are lint traps, and vinyl is a fire code violation in many jurisdictions.
And wash it with soap quarterly — dryer-sheet residue films the mesh and cuts airflow even when it looks clean.
Part of the complete home maintenance schedule.
